
Rodger Stroup will speak on how trains grew our economy in South Carolina.
A native of St. Louis, MO, Dr. Stroup grew up in Charlotte, NC and graduated with a B.A. Degree in History from Wofford College in 1968. After serving in the Army Signal Corps, Stroup attended graduate school at the University of South Carolina where his major fields of study included Southern and South Carolina History.
Dr. Stroup has served as the director/curator of the Historic Columbia Foundation, deputy director of the South Carolina State Museum, and past chairman of the South Carolina Archives and History Center. Since retiring in 2009, Dr. Stroup has remained active in several history organizations and is currently the curator of the South Carolina Railroad Museum, the superintendent of railroad operations, and a certified conductor on the museum’s railroad the Rockton, Rion & Western Railroad.
Dr. Stroup is currently working on a history of the South Carolina State Fair commemorating its 150th anniversary in 2019.
