At our August 23, 2013, President Andrew introduced Allen Roberson of the SC Confederate Relic Room & Military Museum who led us through the battles at Gettysburg during the Civil War. Not only humans died but also millions of horses.
Emerson Smith presented Health & Happiness with news on 12 of our members, notably Ellen Moore, now sporting a red “Nancy Moody” wig, going through very unpleasant treatment for breast cancer but with high spirits supported by the vibes of Rotary Members. Nancy Moody is recovering from knee surgery.
Captain Chuck Witten, USN (Ret) is 95 years old, still sharp in mind, asking about club members, having the USC Caroliniana Library record his oral history from 1920 to present, cared for in his home on Harden Street by his wonderful wife of nearly 66 years, Mardee.
Patty Cavanaugh, Executive Director of the SC Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates, gets the club’s Top National Achiever Award for her upcoming interview on NPR (hear it on SCETV Radio) on Labor Day (Mon., Sept 2, 2013) about Constitution Day events (Sept 20 from 11 AM to 1 PM in the USC Longstreet Theater, arrive early for a seat) in Columbia. NRA President David Keene will speak on the Second Amendment.
Thanks to Olivia Jones (and 1 year-old Andrew), Georgette Sandifer (and Kasey), Garry Powers, Mary Gasque (and Hallie), Jenny Isgett (and Chris), Sharon Buddin (and Dennis), the ever-influential Lisa Hostetler (see her story below), and Mimi Gregory for their good news!
